This is a little pencil drawing I did today of a sprig of violets I pulled up out of my yard. After I was finished drawing, I decided to color it in with some watercolor. I took a picture before and
I was delightfully surprised to see the watercolored-in version as I scrolled down. I've never any success applying watercolor over a detailed pencil drawing. Wonderful job Debbie! It reminds me of illustrations done by botany artists way back. But I have to ask: how did you prevent the graphite from smudging and mixing with the watercolor? My guess is spray fixative perhaps? Or perhaps (shhhhh...) a trade secret? (Promise I won't tell!!)
